The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand centers, and inmate transportation.

The Saltvik operational area includes the prisons Saltvik, Härnösand, and Ljustadalen, as well as the remand center Saltvik. Within the operational area, there is a wide range from the open women's prison Ljustadalen to the closed prison Saltvik, which in addition to regular departments also has one of the country's three security units. The prison in Härnösand is also a closed facility. The largest professional group is correctional officers, but there are also healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, etc. The inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or work within the prisons' packaging/assembly, laundry, or carpentry. You can easily reach the Saltvik prison and remand center by bus or car and park in our staff parking. The Härnösand prison is located in the town center with good bus connections and staff parking. The Ljustadalen prison is just outside Birsta and also offers staff parking and good bus connections.
